cardan drive

We secured planning permission and provided detailed design drawings for a new side and rear extension for a semi-detached house in Ilkley. The mid-twentieth century property had previously been altered internally and extended. We have added a first floor rear extension and new accommodation over two storeys to the side by extending the roof over a new acentric rear gable and adding a catslide roof, and have rationalised the ground floor interior.

The existing garage is replaced with a garden room and integrated greenhouse positioned to open onto a new paved courtyard and external dining area at the rear of the property, overlooked and accessed from the kitchen-diner. The garden slopes steeply and the scheme includes its re-landscaping as a sequence of planted terraces and sitting areas. We adopted the material language of the immediate setting, using dashed render and clay hanging tiles, detailed with a contemporary edge.
